Goldilocks and the Three Dinosaurs - book review

First of all .... happy May to you!  We've turned the page and turned the corner to leave poetry month behind and leap into a brand new month where we can explore more fabulous kid's books together.

I cannot tell you how much I love this next author.  He is just my kind of storyteller.  I love people who are super creative and think way out of the box and this is just who this guy is.  I would love to meet him and just pick his brain and stand in awe of his talent.  Maybe some day that will become a reality.  Ta....dah....introducing...
MO WELLEM.  If you don't know about him or ever read any of his books you are in for a real treat.

The book I have chosen to review is a fractured fairy tale.  What is a fractured fairy tale you may ask?  Well let me enlighten you.

Here is today's feature:

He starts the book in the traditional fairy tale style - "Once upon a time"- and then he throws tradition out the window and that's what I just love about him! A non-tradionalist I am.

"Once upon a time there were three hungry dinosaurs: Papa Dinosaur, Mama Dinosaur, and some other Dinosaur who happened to be visiting from Norway."  What an intro!  Sucks you right in doesn't it?  They tidy up their house, prepare yummy chocolate pudding at different temperatures  and just happen to go "somewhere else."   They leave the door conveniently unlocked and their deviant little minds hope beyond hope that  just maybe a stray little girl may wander in and be tempted to slurp up some of that pudding....ahh... a chocolate covered little girl could be just the thing to come back home to.

The illustrations are brilliant and the expressions and details make you laugh . It is just as entertaining if you skip the text and get lost in the humour of his art.  I love the image of the Norwegian guest with his silly grin, quirky hat and his homeland flag stuck on the side of luggage, and Papa's sketched in eyebrows and moustache is a hoot!

The book is clever, witty and surprising...yes Goldilocks does appear, enter the unlocked house and is tempted to eat the chocolate bait but what happens next is shocking....twisted...surprising and no I am not going to tell you.  You need to get the book and read it yourself because there are no spoilers here.  Mo Willem's brilliant imagination and his sense of humour makes ME laugh, so when this story is read out loud to your kids the laughter will be infectious.  Get a copy today and and extra for a gift to share.

Read on and read always!
