About the book
"The Goat with Many Coats" is a true story. A little goat, and I mean micro-little, only one pound at birth, is born on a cold December night. He is orphaned and sad because he does not have a family. Luckily for him he is rescued by Leanne Lauricella, sometimes called "Goat Mama". She drives him to her farm and lovingly raises there. She names him Prospect.
The little fellow can fit into a teacup and needs not only tender-loving-care but warmth too. Piney, a kind and wise house pig, snuggles with Prospect by the fire the first night. Curled up together they find contentment and happiness as Piney shares her piggy body heat.
The next morning Leanne observes that the poor little guy is shivering and feeling cold. His new caretaker has an ingenious idea... she gives him a top-coat to wear. Once on, Prospect feels like a brand-new goat. He appears to feel empowered and full of self-confidence ... and best of all... he feels warm. He is so happy with his new coat. He ends up with a whole wardrobe full coats which he proudly touts throughout his day.
He grows quickly and sadly outgrows his coats of many styles and colours. Eventually he meets the other animals on the farm and is delighted when he is accepted by them and becomes their friend. His coat grows in thick and luscious and is his pride and joy because it is his very own.
This is a story about hope, friendship, acceptance, encouragement and unconditional love. Prospect's story is inspirational and perfect for a Christmas gift. I love at the end of the book when actual photos of Prospect are displayed. This book will encourage readers to support animal rescue efforts and give children insight into orphaned, injured and malformed critters that desperately want and need a forever loving home. Being an animal lover myself I highly, highly recommend this book.

The Goats of Anarchy Story
In 2014 Leanne Lauricella fell in love with goats and her life was changed forever. She walked away from a lucrative corporate career in NYC, ditched the Mercedes, and built a goat sanctuary in rural New Jersey where goats with special needs could find a home. Lauricella began documenting her unconventional new life on Instagram, amassing more than half a million followers on @GoatsOfAnarchy.
Fans worldwide follow the stories of each goat—the antics of Ansel the destroyer, the model looks of Frankie with the good hair, and sweet little Lawson who had a dire heart condition. Goat lovers check in for a daily dose of goat personalities mixed with the struggles of rehabilitation and rescue. The goats and other animals, typically rescued from abandonment or mistreatment, find a home on one of Lauricella’s two farms where each animal gets care for their special needs.
Prosthetics and carts are provided for goats with missing or deformed legs, and indoor care for new baby goats, goats requiring intensive medical care or terminal illness. The goats’ stories have created a passionate and fast-growing following that serves to help financially support the upkeep of the farm and vet bills for Lauricella’s special needs brood. Meet the illustrator
Born in a sleepy little town in the hills of Pennsylvania, I always knew I wanted to be an artist. I got my first non-paying job, making drawings for my mom's 5th grade classroom bulletin boards, and yes, I also had her as a teacher!
Upon graduating from Penn State University with a degree in graphic design, I entered the corporate design world. As a senior designer and then art director at Hasbro Toys, I occasionally embellished collateral and product packaging with fun little drawings. More requests for these illustrations came my way and before I knew it, I was doing more drawing and less layout design. And I liked it!
After leaving corporate life to start a family, I began freelancing. Presently, I live just west of Boston, with my husband, three teenagers and a crazy, lazy dog (pray for me…). I have a passion for hand lettering, illustrating for the children's market and making patterns. As my pinterest will attest, I'm inspired by all things mid century, particularly children's books. I try to make every job fun with the hopes that my work will put a smile on your face!
