About the book
This charming vintage book is about a sweet imaginative little girl who pretends she is a mommy. It first was published in 1967 and is a Golden Book Classic. It documents a day in her life as she nurtures her dollies just like her mommy nurtures her.
Written in rhyme it gives a totally different take on Mother's Day, one that is seen through the eyes of a beloved child who is passing on her learned mommy skills and mommy love to her three dollies.
Kids will get a first hand view of what it was like back in that era, a time when kids weren't plugged into electronics all the time and they played together using authentic, old-fashion FaceTime. This was a period when they emulated their parent's behaviours and activities and their imaginations flourished. How things have changed with the modern-day child in many homes today.
This book celebrates the hard work of being a good mother and teaches kids of all genders how important it is to be a loving, caring parent no matter what the time period.
The illustrations are truly beautiful and the rhyming text helps kids to easily memorize the words of the text if they wish. It is lovely to see the bond the little girl has with her dollie "children". The book shows us the beauty of a traditional home choice and the import role that a mother plays in the family unit. I recommend this book.
Sharon Smith Kane has written and illustrated many classic picture books, including My Baby Sister, The Treasure Trunk, The Pet Parade, and the forever popular Little Mommy, which has remained in print for fifty years. An accomplished portrait artist, Ms. Kane lives in Plano, Texas.
