About the book
Another generation is having the privilege of meeting Anne ( Anne with an "e" of course ) of Green Gables and what a joy it will bring to their hearts as they become familiar with this beloved character. L. M. Montgomery's bestselling books are known all around the world. This chapter book is penned for beginner readers and the illustrations add depth and richness to the simple text.
The author has done a stellar job at the simplified introduction. She defines each of the characters, Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert, who are stunned that the orphanage sent them a girl instead of the boy that they requested to help them around their homestead. The reader will get a glimpse of Matthew's kind, sweet personae and his sister Marilla's short temper and thorniness towards a charge that she didn't request. And of course there is Mrs. Lynde, their neighbour, who practices "Neighbourhood Watch" to the max and is always interfering in everyone's business in Avonlea.
Anne unveils her vivid imagination, her dramatic reactions to Green Gables and the beauty surrounding it, and of course, her vehement dislike for her red hair. The latter causes a huge rift between she and Mrs. Lynch. Marilla steps into the fray and makes Anne apologize for her outburst of anger over those flaming red locks.
The illustrator captures the time period and the details of the individual characters and setting of the story perfectly. I am sure the original author L. M. Montgomery would be very happy with this adaptation of her masterpiece story and so happy that a whole new group of children will once again enjoy her darling Anne Shirley from Green Gables. I highly, highly recommend this chapter book.
