About the book
Bear is all dressed up to the nines happily awaiting his guests to come to his birthday celebration. He waits and waits but alas nobody arrives to share this joyous occasion with him. Where could they all be? Did they forget today was the day of his party? Oh my!
Being pro-active Bear takes it upon himself to go seek out his friends and find out what exactly is going on.
Bear visits each of the guests and drops hints to them about why he is wearing a party hat, is all dressed up, is wearing his spiffy bow tie and has a flower in his jacket. His friends don't seem to compute his hints as they are all extremely busy with each other and Bear is not included in their busyness..... or is he?
Poor Bear. He gives up and sadly trudges home because he's sure that everyone has forgotten his birthday. When he gets there he notices balloons hanging on his door and flowers on his table. How in the world did they get there? When he enters inside there is not a peep and nobody to be seen.....
Then he hears a loud shout...."SURPRISE!" What in the world is happening? Who could be wishing him a Happy Birthday after all?
Meet the author/illustrator
Hi! I’m Anita. I was born in 1961 in The Netherlands. My entire life, I have loved reading. As a child, I could spend hours thumbing through books, looking at the pictures and hoping I could one day make such beautiful illustrations myself. I studied the images down to the smallest detail and made up my own little stories to go along with them. After high school, I took drawing and painting lessons in small galleries in my neighborhood. And I learned a lot from drawing and painting books. But I also mastered many techniques simply by experimenting with them on my own. When my children were still young, I read them a bedtime story every night. I rediscovered that some picture books are real pieces of art. That’s when I got the ambition to make my very own picture books. I was remarked by the jury of the Key Colours International Illustrators Award 2012. The book Whose Hat is That? was published by Clavis Publishing and every book I have made since has been even more successful.
