Hallowe'en is coming

Hallowe'en can be a very scary time for little ones and many times they are not emotionally mature enough for the ideas and themes that are thrust upon their little minds. Instead of choosing horror books or extra scary ones this Hallowe'en try to soften the season by reading books about Fall, pumpkins or even black cats. A series you might want to check out is Scaredy Squirrel by Melanie Watts. It is an awesome book by a prolific Canadain author that deals with the topic of being scared but does not leave life-long emotional scars. There are other books in the series too and the kids love them all. They are recommended for kids in
Sk-Gr.3. Scaredy Squirrel is a very sweet and loveable character. The books lend themselves to lots of discussion and problem solving techniques. Working through anxiety and being frightened can be greatly aided by reading a great book on the subject together while cuddled up under the covers, reading heart to heart.
