Ribbit- A book review

"I know every book of mine by its smell, and I have but to put my nose between the pages to be reminded of all sorts of things. "
                                       ~Author Unknown

Title:  Ribbit
Author: Rodrigo Folgueira
Illustrator: Poly Bernatene
Ages: 4-8

A happy little pig wants to have a whole load of friends so where does he end up trying to find them?  In a frog pond of course.  He causes some commotion there when he sits himself on a big old rock and says"Ribbit"loudly. The frogs are stunned that this pig would actually be talking in their language....they are confused...then they get angry.  Is he making fun of them?  Frogs "Ribbit", pigs don't.  The frogs get a whole batch of animals involved trying to figure out why this guy is doing this to them.  Unable to solve this riddle themselves they all go off in search of wise beetle who knows all and is willing to impart his wisdom and perhaps solve this puzzle.  When the beetle returns he cannot find the pig on the rock....where is he?  Why he is up a tree of course, happily tweeting, where he is joined by all the animals in a rousing chorus of joy.  The full-page water-colour paintings on textured paper create a charming little world with very expressive characters that you will surely love.  The pig's oversized head, big smile and floppy ears is very endearing to the reader.  As the sound of the"Ribbits increase....so does the font making it the perfect invitation to join in.  It is a story about self-confidence and what to do if someone doesn't understand exactly who you are.  The little pig just wanted some new friends and was willing to go to any length to acquire them.  This book is perfect for reading out loud.
