French toast for breakfast - yum

Quote of the day:

"Reading is important because if you can read, you can learn anything about everything and everything about anything."

Today's featured book:

Let's have a peek inside shall we?

My take on the story:

Emily, Em for short, loves to wake up with a happy smile and smell the French toast cooking, hear the bacon popping and know mom is busy squeezing out her orange juice to serve to her come breakfast time.

Then one morning she awakens to hear and smell ...... nothing.  She is very curious as to why and she tip-toes down to the kitchen to see what is happening.  As she enters the room she discovers mom holding a strange bundle in her arms.  The bundle is all swaddled in blue and the obvious cause of her no-show French toast breakfast.  Em is not amused with this new visitor in her home distracting mom so she can not have her familiar delicious breakfast food.

Every morning from then on she is expected to eat Cream of Wheat....yuk!!  Plain, boring, uninspiring Cream of Wheat and she is really not amused.  But is it truly uninspiring?  Not for Em. She sits and daydreams about all the creative ways she can dispose of this strange creature that has entered into her home.  With imagination and fun the author and illustrator have created scenarios of Em inventing ways to rid herself of that pesky home wrecker that will have the reader smiling and some even relating to Em's dilemma.

The photos are colourful, simple and the characters are adorable.  Will Em's life ever get back to nomal?  Will her mom ever prepare and serve that delicious French toast that is her favourite breakfast of all time?  Will the little creature continue to ruin her life or is there a tiny space in Em's heart that could accept and even love him?  Em finds out that she can have a change of heart and her heart is big enough to love BOTH her beloved French toast and her new little brother.

About the author:

This is Michele's debut book.  She partnered with a fantastic illustrator in Madrid to complete the book.
