Carrot - a bookwrap

No, not that kind of carrot but a cat named Carrot called so because of her beautiful, and unusual colouring.

Growing up I used to be called carrot top too, (which I hated by the way, complete with a face sprinkled with freckles!)  As I got older I learned to appreciate my  hair colour as it was quite rare to be a natural redhead. Let us gather together and celebrate "gingers" today...yes!!!

About the book...

Sometimes being a plain and ordinary cat can truly be a good thing.  Carrot, one such cat, would nap until noon and then head out for her day. She happily hung out with her family, her house was so-so (not too big or not too small), she acknowledged the ally cat on her daily walks and she dropped off soup to a poor little mouse that was ill with the flu.  She excitedly chased mice down Broadway and received a tasty morsel of food from Finney's diner. And then one day...

Carrot discovered and observed a very fancy, white cat aboard a yacht anchored down in the bay.  This pristine pussycat seemed to have it all going on.  Her collar gleamed in the midday sun, she played with an expensive toy mouse just for fun, she slept on a pile of pillows 20 feet tall, and she carried herself like a regal queen.  Carrot started wondering what it would be like to live like this privileged feline, Buffy, just for one day.

Would Carrot love that life of entitlement?  What about her family and friends, would they miss the old her terribly?  And what about her freedom to nap whenever, or when she wanted to just roam around, wherever, and do as she pleased?  Maybe that pampered beauty's life was not so great after all.  After much reflection Carrot decides she is happy and content to be exactly who she is and to be exactly where she is.  After that stunning revelation I am sure Carrot laid down happy and satisfied and took a nice long nap.

The text is written in rhyme and the illustrations are colourful, engaging and expressive.  I highly recommend this book.

About the author...

Vanita Oelschlager is a wife, mother, grandmother, former teacher, current caregiver and, for almost ten years, author and poet.

She was born and raised near Pittsburgh. She is a graduate of Mt. Union College in Alliance, Ohio, where she currently serves as a Trustee.

She has also supported and helped Jim as he built Oak Associates, ltd. into a successful investment management firm.

Today, as an accomplished author, Vanita shares openly the experiences that she, Jim and their families have had with multiple sclerosis. She has likened MS to living with an elephant, one that won't go away or be ignored. Together, she and Jim have found ways to live with this "elephant", and to share some of the larger lessons about life they've learned through the disease.
