Unwrapping...
Authored by Deborah Diesen
Illustrated by Dan Hanna
Ages 3-6
My Review...
"A gift should be big,
And a gift should be bright.
And a gift should be perfect-
Guaranteed to bring delight.
And a gift should have meaning
Plus a bit of bling-zing,
So I’ll shop till I drop
For each just-right thing!”
Mr. Fish is not a happy fish. In fact his pouty-face is even getting more pouty if that's even possible. Why? He is determined to bless all his friends with the ultimate Christmas gift where size, appearance and perfection are his goals. He is on a mission to delight the hearts of all his friends with his ability to choose that right-on special gift that will surprise and awe them at the up-coming Christmas party.
Unfortunately he is a late-starter with his shopping and as he hurriedly combs the shops he finds nothing that meets his expectations... that perfect gift to give. His pout sags even more. Oh my!
He is beside himself with worry until Miss Shimmer calms his fears and assures him that the "best gifts come straight from the heart." She coaches him as he creates and wraps gifts that he knows will greatly please all of his friends once they are unwrapped.
Written in rhyme this book is perfect for the holiday season. It will inspire kids to use their imaginations and make gifts for their loved ones which are much more meaningful to both the maker and the receiver. This is the fourth book in the Pout-Pout series and I know kids will love them all. The message is to be positive in all you do and best of all, in the end, friendships win the day.
The illustrations are full of amazing detail: actions and expressions abound, and the colour palette is soft, inviting and spot on. I highly recommend this book.
