About the book...

"Nina is the Neighbourhood Ninja
She is smart.
She is strong.
She is speedy."

Nina is a wonderful little girl with a very big heart.  She observes her neighbourhood and when she discovers an animal in distress she is takes up the challenge to rescue it and give it comfort.  Her best friend in all the world is Fiona Firefly and together they team up to make their neighbourhood safe for those who live there.

This book journals one day in the life of "Nina The Neighborhood Ninja". It's not a typical day for sure:

"You know - it's like those days when everything seems to happen all at once."

She starts her day like any other normal girl her age playing soccer with some kids in the park.  She then hears a distressed peeping sound and quick as a flash she is off to investigate its origin.  She finds a helpless baby  bird at the bottom of a tree and it has no way to get back to its nest on its own.  Nina cleverly figures out a way to safely return the scared little bird to its nest and its forever grateful mother.  Nina then goes on to rescue a scared cat from an upcoming storm.  She builds it a shelter so it will be safe, warm, and protected.

As she hurries along to her home she encounters a strange movement in the sandbox in the playground.  Oh my!! Whatever could be making those wiggly moves?  To her surprise she finds another rescue job awaits her.  Her heart is moved once again to use  her superhero powers to make a difference and save a herd of sinking turtles.

Nina and her trusted helper Fiona tear off for home where Nina relaxes in a warm bath and they both enjoy a feast of nutritious food.  They then receive a wonderful reward, a heartfelt thank you, for the hard work they accomplished on that very busy day.

Nina challenges all her readers at the end of the story and asks them how they will use their superpowers or if they even do have superpowers?  This is a terrific climax to the tale and a perfect conversation starter as to how your little one can make a positive difference in her very own neighborhood too.

The book is uplifting and inspiring.  It teaches a valuable life lesson to kids.  Come on get on your Superpowers and make a difference right where you live.... your neighbourhood needs you!

About the author...

Author Sonia Panigrahy (Pah-Nee-Grah-Hee), is a public health professional, world traveler, adventure seeker, and fitness enthusiast. She believes that life is too short to be bored!
Nina the Neighborhood Ninja was created out of Sonia's lifelong love of reading. As her family and friends begin to have children, she looked forward to sharing this love with them. She believes that books are a powerful way to empower impressionable young minds.
Sonia was surprised that she could not find books for girls ages 3-6 years that realistically identified females as intelligent, physically tough, brave, and adventurous. She was disappointed that girls continue to be excluded from the heart of the superhero story.
After unsuccessful attempts to find a young girl superhero protagonist on the pages of a book, especially one of color, she gave up. Then she created her own.
