About the book
This fun rhyming book is the perfect introduction to the first ten ordinal numbers, the first five cardinal numbers and the seven days of the week.
With expressive, action-packed illustrations full of imagination and wit this book will highlight math concepts hidden within the storylines. Kids will get subliminal math lessons without even knowing what is happening. That certainly is a good thing.
The book has three distinct stories plus an original rhyme that cries out for interaction.
The Great Penquin Race stars ten athletic penguins that are all pumped to win but things go awry when they jump the gun and tear off after hearing a man cough. Oh my!!! The scrambling, skidding, rolling, digging, overheating and collapsing that happens will make kids giggle out loud I'm sure. The moral? Heads down, eyes on the prize, and run the race straight. If you don't deviate you will end up winning.
Animal Antics will delight wee ones. It depicts seven different critters doing seven utterly absurd things on each day of the week.
My favourite?
"On Friday,
Clever Kitty Cuckoo
Trapped a rainbow in an igloo!"
I remember saying outloud with a pout on my face when I read it... ooohhh (groan)... I'd like to trap a rainbow in my house, how fun would that be?
The animal's antics will tickle a child's funny bone and bring a smile to his face each time it is read.
Little Lucy Ladybird is a tale about a sweet ladybird whose spots get blown about by winds so strong they blow right off of her. The first one lands in the middle of a pond, the second does a graceful moon landing, and my favourite landing place? Nowhere!!! That's because the spot never, ever docks. It's an-infinity-and-beyond spot that probably is still orbiting our earth even now so keep a watchful eye out for it and you just may see it soaring by.
The rhyme is an original action finger rhyme that is perfect to memorize and interact with.
The fun visuals and the playful language makes this book another winner from the talented author and illustrator. I highly recommend this book.
