Unwrapping the Story
Herbert has one thing on his mind... more sherbet please! He is obsessed with the brightly coloured tasty stuff and wants to eat it 24/7 and nothing else. Oh my! That isn't good for him.
He is constantly in a battle with his parents to give him more, more, more while they constantly find ways to restrict his intake.
"One day while Mom was dishing
His scoop of lemon sherbet
She said, "Dad and I just won a trip,
We leave tomorrow, Herbert."
"Grandma Bess is coming here,
And she will be delighted
to play your games and serve you treats.'
Wow! Herbert was excited."
I just wonder what he was thinking with that twinkle in his eye. Enter Grandma Bess into the narrative. Oh Herbert is thrilled because he thinks that he has the power to lure Grandma into eating sherbet whenever he wants... or so he thinks. Grandma has been around the block a few times with kid's challenging her and wisely she gives into his demands. What? Give Herbert unending bowels and cones of nothing but pink sherbet: blue sherbet, yellow sherbet, green sherbet etc. Grandma has a game plan, but will it work? Can it wean her favourite grandson off of his addiction and actually turn him on to nutritious, healthy food that he certainly needs?
This book is written in rhyme with vibrant, neon illustrations that make you wish you were eating sherbet. Herbert learns two very valuable lessons ... be careful what you wish for, and that his beloved Grandma isn't a sucker for his demands. This is a delightful book to share and discuss with little ones as well as for beginning readers. Herbert learns a very valuable life lesson thanks to his wise Grandma. Gotta love Grandmas. They rock!

Meet the Author
Joanie Leopold, Slow Tag Press owner and driving force,
comes to marketing and writing by many traditional, and some less typical,
avenues. With two degrees in English literature, she has been composing
children’s stories and technical articles for decades. She has an extensive background in both retail sales and field sales for industrial machines and
chemicals. Even before she opened Slow Tag Press, Joanie was managing international trade shows and annual ad campaigns for her clients in early childhood education, manufacturing and raw material sales through her marketing company, Ossipee Media Services. She created procedural manuals for the National Park Service during her tenure as a Ranger at Mount Rainier National Park and for various YMCA’s across the country.
About the Illustrator
You've already put your hands on Jim Steck's work – literally. Cups at Denny's, placemats at McDonald’s, counter displays at Pizza Hut…Jim has illustrated many campaigns for a variety of national companies. Major magazines also appreciate Jim's humorous style, as evidenced in issues of Nickelodeon Magazine, Sports Illustrated for Kids, and Hey Kids! Magazine. Jim enjoys illustrating books, especially children's books, where he can showcase his talent for fun, colorful backgrounds and character continuity. Jim and his wife Terri have recently published their first children’s book "Little Rhino has no Horn." Upon graduation in 1983 from The Art Institute of Pittsburgh, Jim bought a one-way ticket to Central Florida. A well-rounded illustrator, his portfolio includes samples of corporate work for such industries as home and commercial building, entertainment and theme parks, the internet, sports, environmental, educational, products, services, and more. Serving advertising agencies as senior art director for nearly two decades, local and regional Addy awards now line the walls of his home office. A native of Orchard Park, New York, Jim is an avid sports fan and entertainment trivia buff. He met his wife, Terri, at an ad agency where she was director of public relations. Terri hails from Bryan, Ohio, and brings to the “team” marketing and production experience. They live with their daughter in Winter Garden, Florida.
