Unwrapping Some Excellent Illustrations for You
The Book
I love this book. The illustrations are just spectacular! They are colourful, strong and could stand on their own to create a wordless book. The storyline plus the illustrations marry together to make this book a definite winner.
The story is narrated from the principal's perspective. She documents all the mischief that Teddy and his stuffed cohorts have mustered up during the day. My goodness, while the children go off to assembly the stuffies enter into the cafeteria and make up a new game called Pizza Fling. They make wigs, mustaches and beards out of spaghetti and then off they go the gym to cause havoc with the equipment there. Coach Sherman tries his best to get control of things and ends bound tightly in skipping ropes. On and on they charge causing chaos in the music room as well as in the art department. Oh my! ( My favourite caper is when they break into the teacher's lounge and the reader gets a glimpse of what teacher's really do in their spare time... very comical... made me laugh!).
Kid's will love the wit and humour and roar with laughter as they see all the trouble these little guys get into. I love the twist at the end when the Principal's heart softens towards Teddy. She has a flashback to when she was a little girl and had a teddy bear of her own just like him. Her heart melts thinking about her special teddy friend, so instead of giving this rambunctious little fellow in her office some strict discipline, she gives him a loving hug and forgives his naughtiness! He and the rest of his pals get off with just a warning of never misbehaving again.
Both young and old can relate to the joy and happiness that is exhibited through the toys as they celebrate their day at school. I think secretly every reader would love to have participated in this free - spirited party. I highly, highly recommend this book.

Meet the Author
Jancee Dunn is the New York Times bestselling author of five books, including a memoir, a children’s book, and Cyndi Lauper: A Memoir. Her essay collection, Why Is My Mother Getting a Tattoo? was a finalist for the Thurber Prize for American Humor. She is a frequent contributor to the New York Times, Vogue, O, The Oprah Magazine, and Parents. She lives in Brooklyn with her husband and daughter.
About the Illustrator
Scott Nash, author, illustrator, and instigator, illustrated the Flat Stanley books written by Jeff Brown, and designed the logos for Nickelodeon, Nick at Nite, Nick Jr., and Comedy Central. He wrote and illustrated The High Skies Adventures of Blue Jay the Pirate as well as Tuff Fluff: The Case of Duckie’s Missing Brain. Ten years ago he founded the illustration program at Maine College of Art. The program is now the largest department in the school. Nash attends many workshops and schools to teach students how to realize the value of creativity in their lives. “All too often children abandon drawing and painting because they believe they are ‘no good’ at art, as if creating only exists in the realm of those we define as artists,” says Nash. “I teach kids that creativity is open to everyone and hope to inspire them to write and draw throughout their lives.” Nash also runs NASHBOX, a graphic design and illustration company, with his wife, Nancy. Nash moved from Boston to Maine years ago to focus on making things daily, specifically to focus on his art, design, and children’s books.
