The Book
It's a wonderful thing to teach little ones to share with and to give to others. This book is a fantastic conversation starter to ignite and discuss this important life lesson. The book is written through the eyes of little Sammy, a chipmunk, who lives in a tree with his parents. He invites the reader into his home to check out his room. He proudly displays his vast collection of pants and shorts... one for each occasion or activity that he participates in: pyjama pants, baseball pants, chef pants (when he helps makes the family dinner), and his cool camouflage pants (when he plays hide-and-go-seek), just to cite a few.
Sam encounters a little squirrel that is not as fortunate as he is. He discovers the upset little guy has torn his only pair of pants and has no means to repair or replace them. Oh my! What can Sam do to comfort him? His tender, compassionate heart leads him to share his vast array of pants with this forlorn little boy. As Sam and his mother sort through his belongings she encourages him to donate some of his abundance to Goodwill. She explains that by doing so he will be helping out those less fortunate which will make them very grateful and happy.
The illustrations are well done and enrich the message of the text greatly. "The Adventures of Giving Series" from Plank Books is dedicated to helping children understand the importance of giving back to those in need. You can connect with Plank Books at www.plankbooks.com I highly recommend this book.
