Editorial Reviews

This was a beautifully illustrated read that would be perfect for Halloween. The plot is easy to follow, and the characters are funny. This would make a great book to read out loud to children.

An absolutely original and thoroughly charming picture book story for children ages 4-8 by the team of author/storyteller Jose Carlos Andres and artist/illustrator Gomez, "I'm a Zcary Vampire" is particularly recommended for family, daycare center, preschool, elementary school, and community library picture book collections for young readers.--Midwest Book Review

Childlike digital illustrations evoke scribbly, chalk-textured art in fanciful colors: the little vampire has mint-hued hair and pink-outlined eyes. Those hoping the book will address how the little vampire is laughed at will be disappointed, but readers with a penchant for quirky underdog tales may enjoy.--- Publishers Weekly

Unwrapping Some Illustrations for You

The Book

This is a delightful book starring a minute "zcary" vampire in Transylvania .. or is he?  He is up against a very serious Vampire Test where he must give the ultimate scare to someone if he is to pass.  If he is unable to produce he will be banished to Banana Peeler School and he definitely doesn't want to go there.

He tries his tactics out on a little girl he meets and casts a GIANT SHADOW before her.  He shrieks...

"I'M A ZCARY VAMPIRE!"

" A what?" the little girl asked.

"You know with zee cape, zee fangz... A VAMPIRE!

She cracks up and laughs out loud. He's got to be kidding. When she sees how upset he is and how much this means to the little guy she has a change of heart, takes pity on him, and commits to help.  Will he succeed and graduate to become a vampire which he desires to be with all his heart?

The illustrations are colourful, vibrant and I especially  loved the main character.  The themes of friendship, teamwork and building self-confidence and self-esteem are addressed.  This book will be suitable at any time to read not just for Halloween.
