The Book
Gabe has a hard time waiting and remaining calm. His patience runs thin quickly and he just wants to get on with things. This book highlights his feelings and reactions when he is postponed.
A very curious and magical phenomena occurs that helps him rectify and reign in his emotions when he is forced to wait. His shoes, Lefty and Lacey, unveil themselves and start giving him advice as how he can become a conquerer. They guide and direct him by suggesting that he relax his body, focus and become more attentive, stay calm and practice the power of positive thinking.
The illustrations greatly enrich the text and are full of expression and are very kid-friendly. I like the diversity of the characters and how responsive Gabe is as he processes his behaviour and then follows the directions that his shoes impart to him. The author includes "Tips for Parents and Educators" at the end which will be very helpful to the adults. I highly recommend this book.

Meet the Author
Jennifer Law is an elementary school counselor in Iowa with more than 15 years of experience! Jennifer loves that her role allows her the opportunity to watch students grow from kindergarteners to 5th graders. Her work with students struggling to handle feelings of anger inspired her to write her first book, Pause Power.
Through her work as a school counselor, she knows that using stories to teach children is a great way for kids to learn the skill of pausing before they react. The choices children make matter because children matter.
Jennifer, her husband, and two sons are happy to call Iowa home!
