The Book
This book teaches the power of the word "no!" It is a word that both young and old struggle with when it comes to situations and relationships. It is a wonderful book to show kids how to set boundaries and use their voice to stand up for what is right and how they feel about situations.
It gives kids permission to say no without feeling awkward, guilty or needing to defend their feelings. This thoughtful and beautifully written book offers the right to kids to speak up when they feel pressure to do something that they feel uncomfortable with from either an adult or a friend. The book highlights scenarios when it's okay to say 'no" but also ones when you should't dissent but respect teachers, parents and other authoritative people in life just to be argumentative and obstinate.
The illustrations display diversity and are colourful, expressive and engaging. The author likens saying "no", a very powerful tool, to a superpower that we all have inside of us. This is a wonderful resource that will definitely ignite conversations and the book includes a helpful section of tips for educators and parents. I love the book and highly recommend it.

Meet the Author
Jenny Simmons is a dynamic storyteller who champions self-transformation in students and adults. She is an accomplished singer/songwriter, the author of two books on personal growth and grief, and serves as a Chaplain working alongside students every day. Jenny has been traveling the country for two decades performing and teaching students and adults how to cultivate a life of hope, resiliency and creativity. A former people-pleaser and mom of two daughters, Jenny is passionate about equipping and empowering children to use their voices in ways that establish honest, compassionate boundaries. She lives with her family in Nashville, Tennessee.
About the Illustrator
Kristin Sorra is an award-winning illustrator specializing in children's publishing and products.
Originally from Baltimore, Kristin loved to draw at an early age. In high school, she took an interest in designing clothes and wearing original designs to school dances, and so decided to pursue fashion design at Pratt Institute in New York. After two years of cutting, draping and tailoring, it was fashion illustration that lured her back to drawing. She graduated with Highest Honors in Communications Design, concentration in Illustration, receiving the class Merit Award in Illustration.
Shortly after graduating, Kristin co-founded Atomic Paintbrush, one of the first studios to provide digital coloring to all the major comic companies. While running Atomic, she also focused on honing her children’s book illustration. She has since been published by companies like Simon & Schuster, Harcourt, Highlights, Houghton Mifflin, McGraw-Hill, Penguin Putnam, and Scholastic. Her work has been recognized by the Society of Illustrators in New York. It has also appeared in comics, magazines, textiles, puzzles, posters, digital media, and her mom's birthday cards. In addition, she is a senior product designer of accessories and costumes for a major manufacturer and retailer.
When she’s not making stuff, she is raising a creative beast, her daughter and imagination connoisseur. Together, they live in a quaint Hudson River town, just a few miles north of New York City.
