The Book

Pete is spending the summer with his Grandparents on their farm and his beloved dog Larry is with him.  Grandma shouts out that the bookmobile has arrived and both Pete and Larry make a dash to select a great book to read.  Pete immediately snuggles up under his favourite tree, in the shade, and starts reading.  Larry decides to go get himself a book inside the bookmobile and if not a book, perhaps he'll find a snack.  

The librarian closes the door and off they go... yes I said they... because Larry is on board unbeknownst to the driver.  Larry finds out the destination is the city library.  He finds a way to enter into the building and goes searching for Pete. Wherever can he be?  He unfortunately gets lost among the busy library workers and all the people enjoying the exciting things that the library has to offer.  Oh my!  Will poor Larry ever get re-united with his owner or will he be lost forever?  

This is the latest edition in the series "Larry Gets Lost".  It is written in rhyme and the illustrations are wonderful. They are colourful, expressive and engaging.  Many kids may not know about bookmobiles or travelling libraries so that would be a fun thing to discover as the book is shared. I love the story which celebrates the importance of reading great books from a library no matter what style  that library may be.  I highly recommend it.

Meet the Author

ERIC ODE is a national award-winning children's singer, songwriter, author, and poet who performs for schools, libraries, and community events. He is also the author of Sea Star Wishes, Bigfoot Does Not Like Birthday Parties and co-author of Larry Gets Lost Under the Sea.

 

About the Illustrator

 John was born in Seattle and grew up on Vashon Island, WA. After working as a reactor operator on a US nuclear submarine he returned to Seattle for art school and a series of staff illustration jobs, eventually becoming a character artist for Disney Consumer Products in Los Angeles. He eventually left Disney to freelance and his clients include Warner Bros., Fox, Dreamworks, Mattel, Hanna-Barbera, Visa, even Amazon. He is also an accomplished muralist, having designed several large scale pieces for Hassenfeld Children's Hospital in New York City, and Funko headquarters in Everett and Hollywood, CA.

In 2006 he wrote and illustrated Larry Gets Lost in Seattle, the first of more than 30 Larry Gets Lost titles in an award-winning series with total sales of over 500,000. Larry is loved in schools and libraries across America and beyond.

John is now a toy designer at Funko in Everett, WA where he lives with his beautiful wife and two dogs (neither named Larry).
