Praise

“Such a heartwarming book. Beautifully written and illustrated.”

– author-illustrator Eric Fan (from The Fan Brothers)

“A moving story to remind us that love is a form of deep noticing and that loving can very much be made up of new choices we make.”

– Kate Hoefler, author of "Nothing in Common", "Rabbit and the Motorbike", and "Real Cowboys"

“A beautiful, touching story that will melt your heart in the same way that Robert Munsch’s book, Love You Forever, touched generations of young readers (and their loving parents, too). A tender, compassionate look at a father-son relationship.”

– Readers’ Favorite

“A beautiful and compellingly different approach to celebrating fathers. Many picture books for kids explore love between fathers and sons but few are so specific, engaging, and realistically reflective as My Dad, My Rock. It should be critical, essential reading for any age who would better understand the important role of a father in the family. An exceptional read that is highly recommended.”

– Midwest Book Review

“An extremely heartwarming and soul-touching story. It is hard to describe the wonderful feelings you will get reading this book. Everyone should get a copy.”

– Reedsy Discovery (Starred)

The Book

This tender beautifully illustrated picture book will tug at your heartstrings.  It was inspired by a true story. Oliver has never met his grandpa, and sadly neither has his beloved dad.  He wonders what he and his grandpa would talk about if they were able to meet even once.

He decides that he would tell his grandpa that his son, Oliver's dad, is  a hero... no... he's a superhero!  His dad always protects him, acts goofy and makes him laugh, teaches him independence, and reads with him every night at bedtime.  "He says that a child without books is like a house with no windows."

His dad is always there for him guiding and helping him sort through his emotional feelings and challenges in his life.  Hugs and love constantly flow between the two affirming to Oliver that he can achieve anything if he only tries. His dad is his biggest cheerleader in life.  Oliver sums up his dad by saying... he is my rock!

This moving inspiring story will reside in your heart long after the last page is read.  It is a compassionate tale that celebrates the bond between a loving father and his precious son. Oliver is sure that if his grandpa would have met his dad he would be extremely proud of the awesome dad he turned out to be. This would be a lovely gift to give to a father on Father's Day or any day.   I highly, highly recommend this wonderful book.

*** I received this book as an ARC and although the release date is April 2, 2022 it is available on pre-order from the link above.

Victor D.O. Santos, PhD is an award-winning author, a language-learning expert, and a father to two multilingual and trilingual children. He is best known as the author of the multi-award-winning children's series Little Polyglot Adventures, which was inspired by his own family history (Victor is originally from Brazil and raises his two children in a multilingual and multicultural household in Iowa, USA, with his Ukrainian wife). All of Victor's fun and beautifully illustrated children's books serve to show children the importance of respecting one another, believing in their true potential, and of trusting the power of love.
