The Book

A little girl loses her adorable pug whose name is Kirby.  She runs all over the neighbourhood trying to locate him but is unable to do so.  Kirby is off on an adventure.  He is lost in a world of his own which causes chaos and mayhem with the neighbourhood traffic.  What could he possibly be up to and where on earth is he she wonders? She must find him and bring him safely home.

The little girl inquires of various dog owners along her search and asks if they have seen Kirby.  The answer she receives is no they have not.  The author then describes every dog breed and their mannerisms that the little girl encounters on her mission to locate her beloved pet. "Golden retrievers are pleasers, Poodles are overachievers, Border collies are always on the job, and German shepherd save the day," just to name a few.  The refrain "But pugs cause traffic jams" is a repeated phrase on the alternate page.  Will the little girl finally reunite with Kirby and the neighbourhood once again have peace and order with their traffic fiasco after he is found?

This is a delightful book and also informative.  The illustrations are detailed, humorous and animated marrying the text perfectly.  Kids will love this book and will identify with the little girl as she searches for her sweet pet.  This would be an excellent read aloud and I highly recommend it.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.
