The Book

Ava is at the beach with her favourite purple pail which she happily fills with beautiful shells that she collects along the shore. A huge wave roars in, sweeps it up, and away it goes on a worldwide tour.  The pail washes up on many different shores in foreign countries around the world.  It interacts with different children who find it.  Purple pail learns their unique language and is put to use in many different ways according to their needs.

The book opens with a map that pinpoints the journey of the kidnapped victim. This would be an educational and unique introduction for Social Studies lessons which would enable students to learn all about various cultures and languages in different countries.  The Purple Pail highlights diverse children partaking in conventional  activities that are native to their own culture.  Lovely detailed illustrations enrich the text making the story come alive.  I love the premise that globally we are all connected and I recommend this book.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

Meet the Author

I grew up spending my summers on the Rhode Island shore collecting beach rocks and shells with my own pail. I am a lover of picture books and have spent endless hours at the library reading them with my own children.

My first book, A Thirst For Home, was recognized by the Children's Book Council as a Notable Social Studies Book in 2015.

Christine Ieronimo writes stories that provide windows to our world, a world that she loves so much. She is passionate about supporting education for girls and also the need for clean water in rural places.
