Two Long Ears - a bookwrap

Unwrapping...

Authored by Jacob A. Boehne

Unwrapping some illustrations...

My review...

This unique  board book is a counting book from 1-10.  Body art is all around us these days and the author, enamoured early on in life with how different people and cultures "dressed up" their bodies, decided to write about it so little ones could be aware of piercings and tattoos and with the people who proudly adorn themselves with these accessories.

Designed with large illustrations in bold, vibrant colours, the pictures certainly enhance the text.  The subject will enthral and engage a young reader enabling her to explore and to understand the diversity of decorations that people can choose from and what they consider to be attractive and creative... thus ultimately defining who they are.

The book also includes a full-colour wall poster that offers a colour-it-yourself version on the back.

This will make a great introduction to a pocket of society that exists and will give you the opportunity to discuss it with your child and  have her (and perhaps even you ) appreciate it more fully. This book would be a wonderful addition to a classroom or elementary school library and is targeted for ages 0-6.

About the author...

Jacob Boehne dwells in Newport, KY with his wife and two children. Inspiration for his work as an artist stems from his musings concerning God, life, death (or the lack thereof) and being human. The term Outsider Art has been attached to his work because of Jacob’s self-taught techniques and fringe subject matter. This show focuses largely on the diversity and beauty of the human person: a subject that can be viewed from many depths and angles. This body of work is the fruit produced from several years of studying body modification, theology and early childhood education. Jacob has a unique way of combining multiple, seemingly contrary, topics into one coherent spectacle.
