About the Storybook & Music CD

The magic of water in all forms:  oceans, rivers, lakes and waterfalls have inspired composers from the beginning of time.  A new Book-CD from The Secret Mountain unveils the mystery and  the fluidity of "amazing water" as it is interpreted and expressed by composers from the 17th century right up to modern day times.   This is a perfect gift for young readers and music lovers. Amazing Waters provides a wealth of information about classical music and its composers.

Mexico City-based author and music educator Ana Gerhard introduces children (and their grown-up counterparts) to the works of Handel, Bach, Schubert, Vivaldi, Beethoven, Debussy, and others by demonstrating how water - the sea, rivers, fountains, and rainfall- have been truly inspiring to these musical geniuses.  The book pairs three centuries of music history with colourful and whimsical illustrations.

The 68-page hardcover picture book harbours a glossary of musical terms, a timeline of musical history, and a short biography of each composer.

The CD features 20 excerpts from various recordings performed by world-class luminaries, including the London Philharmonic Orchestra, La Scala Chorus and Orchestra and the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields.  Originating in Mexico this beautiful work is now in English and is available in North America for the very first time.

Ana Gerhard studied as a concert pianist at the Mexican National Conservatory.  She has taught piano for several years and has hosted numerous radio programs dedicated to the promotion of classical music.

Margarita Sada is an illustrator and a graphic designer.  She is the illustrator of several books, including Guacamole.  She lives in Mexico City.  Roland Stringer, publisher at The Secret Mountain, supervised the translation and adaptation of the book for North American audiences.
