About the book...

"Henry Hunter's friend Charlie is desperate for help.  His parents have gone missing in the Caribbean Ocean, and no one will believe him that something sinister is afoot.

The only lead Henry and his friend Dolf have is the sighting of a ghostly galleon and a huge tentacle of mist.  Exploring the local pirate history and myths, Henry and Dolf uncover a cursed crew of pirates, led by no other than the deadly Edward Teach - Blackbeard himself.  But what's keeping the pirates sailing beyond their deaths? And how and why are they building a crew of live pensioners?  It's up to Henry and Dolf to survive monster waves and befriend a crazy local sea dog to solve the mystery and put the pirates back in their watery graves where they belong!"

My take...

I read the first page and I was hooked.  Who doesn't love an adventurous tale about ghostly pirates, parents that have gone missing out on the Caribbean Sea, and two smart kids who have the brains and ability to solve a good mystery outsmarting all the adults?  You throw in a classic bad dude named Blackbeard, the ultimate evil pirate and voilá.... it's a winner!!!

Henry Hunter is a boy who is wise behind his years.  He is full of knowledgeable facts about almost everything and a true trusted friend that you can rely on when you have nowhere else to turn.  Henry figures out the most complicated cases and solves them aplty. The involvement of the paranormal is a great component woven into the story that kids will truly love.

Having taught this age group for many years I know that it is an age-appropriate book and kids will delight in the tale.  The illustrations, which are very well executed,  add much to enrich the narrative. This is book is number two in the Henry Hunter series. I highly recommend it and am so glad there are more HH escapades to come.

Storywraps rating... 5 HUGS!!!!!
