About the book

"I love Mouse."

This tender charming book will open your heart to witness the love  that is very evident between a very old, fat dog, with ears as thin as pancakes, and a young girl who comes faithfully to his home and asks if she can take him out for a walk.

"Can I take Mouse for a walk?" I ask, and I'm always allowed.

Together they take a very slow stroll around the block pausing for Mouse to sniff the lampposts and fences for a long time and engage in his outside world.  They amble into the park where they share a snack, Mouse eating the little girl's too.  Then it's back on track...

"Step, pause. Step, pause. Step, pause. "

The wind starts to blow and together they weather the force with Mouse's ears flapping like flags and him shutting his eyes against the turbulence.  He is rewarded with meatball treats and then it's homeward bound.

When she drops him off she sadly stands until she can't see her old friend any more.  She hates to leave him and go on her way home.   The most beautiful part of the story that will tug at your heartstrings is you see Mouse looking out the window because he feels exactly the same way about her.

The last line sums up the story perfectly...

"I wish Mouse was mine."

The simple kid-friendly illustrations use soft colours with lots of expression.  The book is translated from Swedish and the take-away is that animals are very important no matter what their age and they love to feel special as they spend quality time with their beloved humans.  I love the book and highly recommend it.
