About the book
How to Be a Lion Is a Lovely Lesson in Being True to Yourself
This delightful story highlights the importance of being who you are. Meet Leonard, a tender-hearted lion who doesn't fit in with the norm of lionhood. He loves taking long walks, feeling the sun on his fur, and hanging out on his thinking hill. He daydreams and writes poetry and spends quality time with his best friend Marianne who is a duck.
Leonard loves life and engaging in it. One day a pack of bullies confront him and tell him he needs to be fierce and scary because that 's how lions are supposed to act. They try to convince him there is only one way to be lion and that is to roar and be ferocious. Poor Leonard listens in alarm and begins to doubt himself. Is he really a lion if he has a gentle nature with a loving heart? Does he have to change his way of thinking so he can truly be a lion? He has no problem letting them be who they are so why can't they accept him for who he is?
Leonard soon learns there are many ways to be a lion, and many ways to be a friend, and sometimes finding just the right words can change the world...
This sweet, funny, thoughtful, and much-needed story will open up readers' eyes to the importance of being who they are and not backing down to hurtful criticism. It's an empowering tale about connecting with others and choosing kindness over bullying, and shows children how angry and proactive words can be overcome by empathy and courage.
