The Book

This is the third book in an early reader series based on the classic series of Anne of Green Gables.  It is a lovely way to introduce the spunky character of Anne Shirley in a more simple format which includes gorgeous artwork that enriches and empowers the story.

Anne, with an "E",  delights in the autumn season that has come to her beloved Avonlea.  She has already been attending school for three weeks with her kindred spirit friend, Diana Barry.  One day Gilbert Blythe arrives in the classroom and Anne can't help but notice that he is handsome, smart and very outgoing.  Unfortunately he crosses the line with Anne when he yanks at her braids and calls her "Carrots!"  Anne is so angry that she vows to never speak to him ever again.

That promise is broken later when Anne has an accident on the pond and her wooden planks sink leaving her stranded.  Fortunately Gilbert Blythe becomes her superhero and rescues her from danger.  Will that noble deed release him from Anne's forever boycott?

This condensed retelling of the famous story by the author is sure to appeal to fans of Anne who are both young and old.  I love the book and highly recommend it and the entire series.
