The Book

This is a wonderful story featuring an immigrant family that moves to America to start a new life.

June, the little girl in the family, is introduced to their new business and discovers there is lots of work ahead to prepare for the restaurant's opening.  Inside she finds that the previous owners have left a lucky cat statue to welcome them.  June soon learns that the cat statue can magically come to life.

Sadly Lucky Cat does not live up to her name.  She tips over vinegar bottles, vandalizes people's clothing, and constantly sneezes on those who pay the new restaurant a visit.  Through all the mishaps and chaos that ensues June learns a very valuable life lesson...success is achieved by perseverance, hard work, and following the desires of your heart.

"Lucky Cat" is a debut book penned by the hosts of the hugely popular AsianBossGirl podcast.  The illustrations are beautiful.  They are colourful, expressive and visually enrich this inspiring picture book. It highlights the themes of immigration,  Asian culture, and settling into a new country.  I highly recommend this book!

ABOUT THE AUTHORS:

Melody Cheng is the co-host & co-founder of the podcast, AsianBossGirl, a podcast-turned small media company. She is a proud Taiwanese-American originally from the Bay Area and her passion lies in storytelling and connecting with people through digital media, especially within the API community. Prior to working at AsianBossGirl, Melody had a career working in social media marketing and studio production for photography. When she’s not working on the podcast, you can find her binge-watching Korean dramas or, as a self-proclaimed "Comfort Cook," in the kitchen trying out her mom's recipes.

Helen Wu-Wang is a Boston-native podcast host, entrepreneur, and digital content creator. Prior to founding her podcast, AsianBossGirl, with two of her best friends, Helen worked at one of the Big 4 accounting firms as a Business Valuation Manager. Diversity in representation is fundamental to the values she believes in, and with ABG, her passion and purpose have aligned as she seeks to empower the next generation of API leaders. She is the proud daughter of Chinese immigrants and loves embracing her family’s cultural traditions, like taking care of her elders, and making the most collagen-rich, gelatinous soups. Helen lives in Los Angeles with her husband and the new love of their lives, a squishy little 6-month-old boy.

Janet Wang is a co-founder and co-host of AsianBossGirl, a podcast-turned small media company. She is a Chinese-American SoCal native who has spent time in San Francisco, New York, Miami, and Kenya, before settling back into Los Angeles. Prior to ABG, she worked in tech as a UX designer. Janet is also a wellness content creator focused on meditation, yoga, plant-based eating and living, health and self-improvement, and contemporary art.
