About the Series

Shakespeare's Tales brings the Bard's timeless stories to life for a younger generation, with wit and panache. Samantha Newman's cleverly reworked text retains many of Shakespeare's own inimitable turns of phrase, while simplifying and clarifying the language and plots to make stories accessible to children. Perfect for children aged 7+.

The Book

Romeo and Juliet's families have hated each other forever it seems.  They are always fighting and brutalizing each other's members.  The two fall deeply in love and secretly marry.  How can their relationship thrive and they be together and live with happiness and peace when such hatred exists?

This is one of the most epic love stories ever told and has been read and taught in schools for many, many years.  It is truly a timeless classic.  Samantha Newman has adapted this beloved play perfecting its understanding to young readers 7+ brilliantly.

The added illustrations make the text come alive and will engage the younger generation from beginning to end.  The language has been modernized and the story condensed.  Told in five short acts it highlights  revenge, bitterness, and forbidden love.  I love the book and I highly recommend it and all the others in the series.  This book ( and the entire series ) is a perfect addition to a home, classroom and library setting.

Meet the Author

Samantha Newman is a children's fiction author with a talent for humour and a flair for the fantastic. She has adapted folk tales from around the world; brought Shakespeare to a modern audience; and remixed fairy tales. About the Illustrator

Ceej has been a practising illustrator for the past ten years, and has been drawing in general for much longer than that. Taking inspiration from people and their surroundings, he gets a real kick out of capturing the little details that make a piece of work stand out, learning new processes and challenging his comfort zone whenever he gets the chance.

Growing up, he surrounded himself with comics (of the Dandy and Beano variety), pictorial reference books and illustrated literature (factual or fictional), so being able to use his creativity to make a living is a childhood dream come true.

Today - having lived in London until recently - he now resides in Dorset, on the south coast of England. When he’s not hunched over the desk in his studio, or happily sketching in the quiet corner of a coffee shop, he spends time with his family and friends - heading to the beach, exploring the surrounding countryside or returning to the city for a culture top-up.
