Following are the top ten children storybooks as taken from the National Education Association. The first list is the top picks selected by teachers: 1. Charlotte's Web by E.B. White (9-12 years), 2. The Polar Express by Chris Van Allsburg (4-8 years), 3. Green Eggs and Ham by Dr. Seuss (4-8 years), 4. The Cat in the Hat by Dr. Seuss (4-8 years), 5. Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak (4-8 years), 6. Love You Forever by Robert N. Munsch (4-8 years), 7. The Giving Tree by Shel Silversteen (All ages), 8. The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle (Baby-Preschool), 9. Where the Red Fern Grows by Wilson Rawis (Young Adults), 10. The Mitten by Jan Brett (4-8 years). It would be fun to make a copy of the complete list and start reading age-appropriate books to your child. Keep track of your child's progress and have fun. I had the entire list posted on my frig and my 26 year old (to her delight) discovered that she had covered most of the books. We had a wonderful trip down memory lane as we discussed her favourites. I was astounded that she still could remember and recount most of content of the stories. Stories are alive and well and stored in our minds and hearts forever.
