About the book...

Tortoise is so ready for his winter sleep.  He is dozy and groggy and just wants to crawl into his bed and wake up in the Spring.  He hates winter.  Just as he drifts away into his coveted sleep he hears, "Chirp chirp, chirp!" Who in the world could be disturbing his Feng Shui? It's Robin wondering if he'd like to join the singing class."

"No", grumbled Tortoise.  "I was trying to sleep. Tortoises don't like winter."

He tries over and over to close his eyes and sink into heavenly bliss but is distracted by Rabbit who wants him to come and make ice sculptures with him, Squirrel wants him to partner in a snowball fight, and Beaver who is loud and pounding out creations at his construction site is just simply annoying.  After each disruption poor tortoise takes his belongings and slowly plods off to a new location hoping beyond hope to find a quiet space where he can finally hibernate in glorious silence.

Do you think he can succeed or will extenuating circumstances draw him into an active winter engaging with his friends and maybe.... just maybe.... enjoying himself and enjoying winter too.

The illustrations are just amazing.  They are crisp, full of detail, action and expression. The story is short and simple and young readers can handle reading it on their own but it is much more fun  sharing it at bedtime.   I highly, highly recommend this book.

Storywraps rating...   5+++...  HUGS!!!!!

or maybe not!  :-)

About the author/illustrator...

Katy Hudson won the Oppenheim Toy Portfolio Best Book Award Gold in 2014 for her illustrations in the book Animal Teachers. Her debut picture book, Bear and Duck, received strong reviews, including a starred review from Kirkus. Katy lives in London.

Katy was raised in Middlesbrough, England, and started her Illustration career as a small child drawing on freshly painted walls around the house! Her parents quickly dissuaded her from this medium and encouraged drawing with pencil and paper instead. Obsessed with drawing animals and telling stories, the idea stuck (the pencil was updated to an ink pot and pen in some cases) and after some lovely time at art college and a degree in illustration, Katy is now a freelance Illustrator based in Bristol.
