Unwrapping the Story
This sweet book deals with permanent separation from a loved one and the assurance that although it is never easy, God is aways there to give comfort and peace.
Quinn, a thoughtful baby owlet, is forever full of questions. One morning she and her Mama return to their nest to find an injured firefly. Filled with compassion for the little bug they agree to nurse him back to health. Her caring Mama begins by bringing the little guy a leaf with a drop of dew on it and drips the water into the little bug's mouth.
Quinn helps to take care of their little patient and names him Blink. She has made a steadfast friend and she vows to nurture him and to never let him get hurt again. Suddenly, one night, everything changes....
Quinn wakes up and finds her best friend is gone. He just flies away into the night and leaves her. Oh my! Wherever could he have gone?
"Mama, why didn't God make Blink stay with me? Didn't he know how much I loved him?"
How will Mama answer her beloved child? Mama's wise answer leads to Quinn praying to God and telling him her sorrow. She feels assured that although Blink has flown away that God will always be there for her. As she pours out her heartbreak and deep sense of sadness to God she feels like he is hugging her heart just like her sweet concerned Mama is hugging her right now with her wings.

This book has beautiful illustrations and will touch a child's heart. They will understand that although people and things leave this earth God will always be there for them. It is a positive message of comfort, love, understanding and hope. The author includes facts concerning fireflies and a parent's page that is very helpful at the end. Highly recommended.
I'm the mama of 3 young boys, who keep me hopping with their requests for stories and snacks. I'm married to an educator, and spent the past 12 years as the Director of Children's Ministries at my church in Alberta, Canada.
Via my website and online membership site (HopeGrown Faith), I help parents nurture the hope of Christ in their homes. My goal is for every Christian parent to be confident in their calling to disciple their unique children!
In 2012 I began work on my first book (not knowing it was a book), as I wrote weekly Bible-based devotions for the families in my church. In 2015 the devotions were released as “Wise for Salvation: Meaningful Devotions for Families with Little Ones“. It is my great joy that this devotional has brought hundreds of families and children closer to God.
The first two books of my new children's picture series will be published by Harvest Kids in 2019. The series is based on Quinn the Owl from "Wise for Salvation", with "Quinn's Promise Rock" being the first in the series.
If you and I spent the day together, and I got to pick our schedule, here’s what we would do:
1) Go shopping at Value Village.
2) Go to a Zumba class at the gym.
3) Eat East Indian food or monstrous burgers piled with mushrooms.
