Praise

Fleiss’ lilting, rhyming abcb verse is a delight to read, and Pippa’s quirky perseverance stands as an endearing example for young budding scientists of all genders. Bouloubasis’ fantastical illustrations are vibrant with movement, color, and detail.
Kirkus Review

The rhyming story is…inspirational, as Pippa is undeterred and continues her lab work even when her experiments fail to yield success.

The Book

Princess Pippa lives in a castle, and truly is a princess, but she is not interested one bit in learning all the royal protocol.  She would rather spend her time in her very own laboratory cooking up grand discoveries that may even win her prizes.  So far she has not made any breakthroughs and gained any notoriety for being a clever scientist.

Then one evening every thing changes.  The Queen encourages Pippa to eat her peas but Pippa asks if she can skip them because they taste dull.  She slips a few into her pocket and goes about hatching a plan to grow a pea so flavourful and delicious that all the people in the kingdom will agree!  She runs to her lab, grabs a new petri dish and the experimentations begin!   Will she succeed?  Is it possible to find a cure for that dreaded dull and blah-tasting pea?

Written in rhyme with illustrations that enrich the text this fractured fairy-tale is sure to become a winner.  It's a story where science and fantasy intersect making chocolate-covered peas the hit of the kingdom!  The book encourages kids to follow their dreams and never give up.  It's a true testament of inspiration proving to kids that dreams can come true.  I highly recommend it.
