The Book

It's a very special day in Polly's life.  I assume it is  her birthday but it could be any day that she alone chooses and the very best part?  Polly gets to spend it  with her beloved dad...all day long.  He will join her on an adventure of her choice.  Whatever will she decide to do?

The gift she chooses to share with her dad is the gift of spending quality time together!  They will make unforgettable memories that will be tucked in their minds and hearts forever more.

The colourful illustrations are beautifully executed and the text is written in rhyme.  I must admit I got a little overwhelmed with all the sugary cakes (pancakes, cupcakes, pound cake, layer cake, wacky cakes, dirt cake) she orders up and would have preferred she have a nice meal THEN order an amazing cake dessert that is of her choice for both she and her dad to enjoy.

I love the father/daughter bond that is highlighted and how they devote a whole day to focus and hang out with each other.  " Polly's Special Day" emphasizes the importance of spending time with loved ones.

Meet the Author

Yulinda Cook’s first book was inspired by her first grandchild and her late mother.

“Polly’s Special Day” is a children’s story — Cook’s first published work — that celebrates birthdays, dreams and the special gift of time. The Suwanee resident, who has had a lifelong passion for writing, said she originally got the idea when her granddaughter Jordyn celebrated her first birthday nearly a dozen years ago.

“The idea of the book was started when my first grandchild was born,” Cook said. “On her first birthday in 2012, I called to wish her a happy birthday and said, ‘What are you going to do today?’ My son said she’s going to do anything she wants to do — she can have cake all day.
