What's in your museum?

Quote of the Day:

" Life is a book and there are a thousand pages I have not read yet."

Title: Ophelia and the Marvelous Boy
Author: Karen Foxlee
Ages: Middle Grade

This modern day fairy tale is full of mystery, excitement and adventure.  It is a retelling of the evil Snow Queen and a very unlikely heroine, Ophelia Jane Worthington-Whittard, age 11, who pairs up with a fragile, mystical boy and together they devise a plan to save the world.

Ophelia's mom has just recently passed away and she, her big sister Alice, and her dad find themselves in a Museum, in another city, due to her dad's job as a sword expert.  The city where the Museum is located is constantly cold and always snowy.  The museum curator, a young, vivacious woman, with a stone cold heart, often tends to the sister's needs while their dad is busy cataloguing and displaying the swords housed within the museum.  Ophelia on one of her explorations discovers a marvellous boy locked away in a secluded part of the building.  She begins to talk to him and finds out he is being held prisoner by Her Majesty the Snow Queen and he has been waiting for Ophelia's arrival so she could rescue him and literally save the world.  Ophelia discovers that although she is small and asthmatic she is very curious and braver than she thinks.  She determines to believe the boy's story and propose in her heart that she was the one chosen long ago to successfully complete this mission and rid the world of the wicked Snow Queen once and for all.

Foxlee writing is elegant and rich and pulls you farther and farther into the intrigue the more you read on.  I really enjoyed the book from beginning to end and would highly recommend it. She is a true storyteller in every sense of the word.
