Gross Gus's Rotten Christmas - a bookwrap

Smile some while you are here....

Unwrapping.....

This book is authored by Kally Mayer and illustrated by Mindy Liang.  The illustrations are colourful, cartoonish and very, very expressive.  The vibrant colour pallet is sure to get you into the Christmas spirit and make you smile.

Unwrapping the content..... first the illustrations....then the text

This book is written in rhyme.  A little boy named Gus knows he is not worthy of presents this year because "naughty" is what he is very good at.  His mom and dad agree (along with his sister) that he definitely has made Santa's Naughty List.

His shenanigans are not amusing to those being targeted.  He puts his daddy's underwear on sister Susie's bear, he steps in doggy doo in his new red shoes and tracks it all over, and he glues his teacher's butt to her chair, just to name a few.  He forgets that Santa is watching his every move (good and bad) and is taking perfect notes. Unfortunately the bad outweighs the good landing him in the No Gifts column in Santa's record's book, in fact his name is not even in the book!

A resounding refrain echoes throughout the pages. " Somebody tattled on me?'  I wonder who in the world that person could be?  Someone that may live right in the house with him and witness his antics up close and personal do you think?  Justice is rightly served when the tattler too ends up on the Naughty List.

Gus makes a plea to his readers that they should behave or they too will forfeit presents and holiday fun because there are consequences for your actions... and ending up with nothing for Christmas takes the cheer out of the holiday indeed. He vows that next year will be different and that he will work hard to be included on the "nice" list.  Think he can?

Kally Mayer is the oldest of 7 children and has always loved writing and poetry. She recalls her mother being concerned that she read so much that she never came out of her room.
Working as a Youth worker with special needs children Kally has been around children her whole life. She really enjoys entertaining them with her silly rhymes and made up stories.
Kally has 3 children and two grandchildren which has inspired her to publish books for younger children.
Kally believes that literacy is an important indicator of the success of your child and entertaining them while reading is key. Gone are the days of Dick and Jane. The more fun you and your child have, the more you will hook them into reading!

Read on and read always!

It's a wrap!
