Too Clever V11 - Cleo's Tomato Sandwich - a book review

Quotes of the day:

"Botanically speaking, tomatoes are the fruit of the vine, just as are cucumbers, squash, beans and peas."  - Horace Gray

"There is nothing better than picking up sun-warmed tomatoes and smelling them, feeling them and scrutinizing their shiny skins for imperfections, dreams of way to serve them.  -Frances Mayes

About the book:

This book is not only a story that has built in family values but is very educational as well.  Eleven year old Cleo adores tomato sandwiches....you might say she is obsessed with them.  Night and day a tomato sandwich is what she desires. She realizes the strain for obtaining those tomatoes is taking a toll on her mother who must shop frequently and keep them fresh for her daughter's delightful preoccupation.

Cleo gets the brilliant idea that she will plant her own tomatoes and have fresh, juicy tomatoes right out of her very own garden thus lessening the burden on her beloved mother.  After researching how to execute that plan, actually setting the plan in motion, and of course asking permission from her parents if she could have a small plot of land in the backyard to plant, she and her family move forward to see the dream in her heart fulfilled.

Cleo is a strong, female character who displays thoughtful, practical, and problem-solving abilities.  I really liked the respect and support she received from her family to help her achieve her goal.  Another significant lesson from the book is the importance of sharing with others.  Cleo's tomato crop is so successful that she has enough leftovers to share her harvest with others around her.  A perfect way to celebrate her love of tomatoes.
