About the book...
Can you guess the number one question that kids ask an astronaut? Yep, it's a potty question.... "How do you go to the bathroom in space?"
This book answers a myriad of questions about diet, self-care, fashion, sleeping in space, and the effect a non-gravity environment has on your both your lifestyle and health, just to name a few.
Dr. Dave Williams, a NASA astronaut alumni answers the questions posed by kids truthfully, because he's been there, done that.
The fantastic photographs and illustrations boost the understanding of space life visually and the fun facts inserted within are very educational for both young and old. For example:
"Thanks to surface tension, it's possible for astronauts to "eat" liquid. We can use chopsticks to grab a blob of water, just as if it were solid food. Once it's in our mouths, though, it's back to acting like a liquid. Gulp."
"When it comes to bathroom breaks, bio wipes are an astonaut's best friend. But used wipes are stashed in the solid waster compartment, and since space is so limited, we can't use too many."
The illustrations are colourful, vibrant and humorous which I know kids will love. They are a mixture of real photos plus cartoon-like drawings that draw the reader into the narrative.
The authors have included a book list and online resources for more exploration of the topic and a link to the European Space Agency and Nasa Kids Club. This is a fun, educational book that young astronaut wanna-be's will be excited to discover. I highly recommend this book.
