Editorial Reviews

"[The illustrations] neatly show a huge range of diversity in skin tone and family makeup, including two dads with a baby and a mixed-race family." - Kirkus

"McFarlane and Vaughan transport readers to a diverse neighborhood of townhouses populated by families of all makeups and colors-in the span of a few homes there are single parents, interracial families, gay fathers, a child who uses a wheelchair, and others. It's an easygoing and broadly appealing reminder that-no matter a family's shape, size, or particular circumstances-affection is a constant."Publishers Weekly

About the book

Who knew there were so many occasions where kisses are planted?

"I love kisses.
I'll be you do too!'"

The unfolding of these kissfests and the diversity of the people who deliver them make this book exceptionally fun and a huge winner.  Wee ones will identify with all of the scenarios proposed I'm sure.

Kisses wake you up in the morning, licking puppies and drooling baby brothers are happy to contribute.  Kisses are the perfect bandaid for bee stings and boo-boos that are hurtful, and on special holidays are celebrated when family and friends gather together.  Sadness, can't stay mad at you, and good night/sleep tight kisses are always the best to receive as they transfer care and healing to those in need.

The digital illustrations are colourful, expressive and add a lovely richness to the text.  The best news of all?  Kisses are given from heart to heart and they are absolutely free. This is a wonderful book that shows how love is expressed and appreciated.

(Of course when the book is shared together be sure to sprinkle lots of hugs and smooches to your little one to drive the message home. Home is where the heart is and the best kisses of all!

About the author

Sheryl McFarlane is a mother, grandmother, educator, editor, and author of more than a dozen books for children. Waiting for the Whales, Jessie’s Island, and A Pod of Orcas are a few of her bestselling and award-winning, books. Her forthcoming picture books are Island in the Salish Sea and Kisses. About the illustrator

Brenna loved creating as soon as she was able to hold a crayon. As a child, she lived with a nice family who gave her a lot of art supplies and paper. She made many drawings and books, mostly of unicorns, animals in clothing, fairy princesses and outfits she wanted to wear (all of which she still draws today). Her love of art and books led her to get a BFA in illustration from Memphis College of Art. Now, she wants nothing more than to fill as much time as possible illustrating stories for young people. Brenna's work is a blend of digital and traditional media that combines watercolor, ink and acrylic with digital techniques. She lives in the St. Louis, MO area with her two children, and some hamster escape artists. When she is not illustrating she loves to sew, treasure hunt in the local thrift store, spend hours at the library, explore the outdoors, and eat new foods.
