About the book
"Boone watched his brother Finn begin to fly."
"Why is he always first?" Boone groaned.
"First to hatch.
First to dunk
And now he is first to fly."
The other siblings are so excited for Finn and praise and cheer him on ... all except Boone. He is jealous and thinks it's all terribly unfair. Why can't he be first at something before his brother Finn? Boone is full of fear stepping out of his comfort zone. He has tremendous anxiety when trying something new and he feels like a big failure before he even begins. With the support and love of those around him Boone learns to overcome his fears and starts to believe that "yes he can!" He discovers that new things aren't so scary after all.
The book encourages kids to practice, to try hard, be brave and conquer anxieties that hold them back from trying something new. This book is a wonderful catalyst for discussion and would be a great addition to a classroom and/or in a school library collection.
The illustrations are delightful. They are full of action, expression and fun. The characters are so adorable. The author has added a section at the end of the book, "Tips for Educators and Parents," that will aid adults in assisting children to overcome their fears and anxieties. I highly recommend this book.
