Unwrapping the book

Little Ant is not anticipating a very happy Valentine's Day.  You see none of the girls in the anthill will give him the time of day, forget giving him a Valentine, so he settles in his heart that it is going to be a lonely, sad day for sure.  Then he encounters a ray of hope...

One afternoon he meets an extremely pretty female ant who is busy, strong, and smart.  She also is stuck-up and very unfriendly towards him.  After their encounter they both go on their way but all Little Ant can think about is her!!!!  The next time he bumps into her it is a repeat performance of her snobbishness and rudeness towards him.

"Why are you so mean to me?" Little Ant asked her. The pretty ant responds...

"All the ants in my anthill say that I am stuck-up, the pretty ant said. They say that I don't share.  They think I like to be alone too much. No one wants to give a valentine to me.  So why should I be nice!"

"Leave me alone, the pretty ant said, and she turned away."

Oh my!   Is Little Ant's dream of befriending her now shattered and gone?  Does her diatribe discourage him and stop him from pursuing her?  NO WAY!  He feels a strong connection to her because she feels just like him.  He doesn't give up on her for one minute and he uses his problem solving skills to figure out a way to capture ( and hopefully win ) her heart.  Can it work?  Will she finally give in and accept his Valentine that he offers to her?

This original love story illustrates Aesop's moral: "Even the wildest can be tamed by love". The whimsical illustrations enrich the text and are colourful and expressive.  The book highlights to young readers that life is meant for sharing and it's not fun to live it alone. It also accentuates the power of love! The couple experience a very Happy Valentine's Day... together!  Long live love!
