The Book

"Once upon a midnight blue,
the Moon King, full and bright,
was dancing to a dreamy tune
and tripped over the night.

The night it spilled onto the land

and ran into the sea,
The stars fell softly, floating down,
and landed in the trees."

Thus begins this rhyming tale of a mishap caused by the Moon King.  He inadvertently trips over the night while deeply immersed in a dance to a dreamy tune.  The night disperses across the land and into the sea.  The stars spiral downward into the trees, rocky cliffs, caves, firths and fiords.  The Moon King stresses as to how he will get them all back to where they belong?

Knowing he is unable to complete the mammoth task himself the Moon King must seek help from others.  But who will be willing to take on such a HUGE task?  He searches and finds a variety of sleeping birds and animals that he gently wakes up and asks if they will help.  They all agree and together the animals collect the fallen stars and place each one very high up in the tall trees.

Flocks of birds then band together and pluck a star from the trees and place it back up in the night sky.  After everything is restored as to how it should be the weary animals go back to sleep.  The Moon King shows his appreciation by blessing the valiant helpers with special rewards that only the Moon King can provide while they sleep away.

This enchanting book is beautifully illustrated and has a magical aura about it.  It is a perfect bedtime story that I'm sure kids will love to read again and again.  I highly recommend it.
