The Book
This is a sweet book with a simple yet powerful storyline. The illustrations are so adorable and kid-friendly which greatly enrich the text.
Tomorrow is Mona's first day of the new school year and she is excited to go. Her little brother Milo asks her: "What do you do at school?"
This opens up an opportunity for Mona to explain to Milo exactly what she is looking forward to. She gives him a detailed list of all the things that school entails. She tells him:
* you ride on a bus
* practice reading and writing
* learn about science
* do math...
* and enjoy art and music
She is extremely enthusiastic as she tells him about school and then she lovingly reassures him that being home with him is just as much fun! This heartwarming tale is perfect to share as the author shows that learning is play and vice versa. This book is a lovely introduction to school for those curious about it, and an affirmation of jubilance for those who already attend. It is highly recommended by Storywraps! Enjoy!

Meet the Author/Illustrator
Toni Yuly has been an early bird her whole life and loves to start the day in her studio listening to other early birds sing outside her window. She lives in a small house by the water in Bremerton, Washington, near Seattle where she was born.
Toni fell in love with Eastern sensibilities during a year spent in Sendai, Japan. She graduated from the University of Washington with a BFA in painting where she studied with the great American painter Jacob Lawrence. Now, after many years as a librarian in the King County Library System (she took a ferry to work!) Toni dedicates herself to designing, painting and writing full time. EARLY BIRD, published by the fantastic people at Feiwel & Friends, was her first picture book.
