Books to Celebrate Grandparents - various bookwraps

Picture Books That Celebrate Grandparents

Sunday, September 13, 2020 is National Grandparents Day.  What a great way to celebrate by reading fantastic books to your kids about the grandparents that they dearly love.  Here's a few that you may like:

Hey Grandude!
by Paul McCartney, illustrated by Kathryn Durst

Grandude and his clan of four grandchildren take a magical trip around the world! Authored by one of the most renowned, iconic, musicians ever, this fantastic book is full of adventure and imagination.  The talented illustrator is Canadian!  Hurray! ( yes I'm a Canadian! )

Just Grandma, Grandpa, and Me ( Little Critter )
by Mercer Mayer

This two-in-one picture book includes both "Just Grandma and Me" and "Just Grandpa and Me".  The heartwarming stories feature Little Critter spending quality time with his grandparents.

Grandma’s Purse
by Vanessa Brantley-Newton

When Grandma Mimi comes to visit, she always brings her purse. For her granddaughter, the purse is almost magical. She can't wait to open it up and see what Grandma has inside. With bright, energetic illustrations, readers will be enchanted by this familiar slice-of-life story.

**Yep, my Grandmother could not be separated from her purse either when she visited us. We always wondered what was hidden inside that we weren't allowed to see.

by Jean Reagan

This is a boxed set and two books are inside:  "How to Babysit a Grandma" and "How to Babysit a Grandpa".  The books are filled with tips and advice on the care of feeding both grandparents.  This humorous how-to-collection makes a wonderful gift.

by Stan Berenstain and Jan Berenstain

I love any of the Berenstain bear books.  Come along as Brother Bear and Sister Bear spend a week at their grandparents.  At first separation anxiety sets in and then they discover the week passes ever so quickly because they are having so much fun.

by Harriet Ziefert

Younger children will love reading this adorable lift-the-flap book about grandmas. From trips to the zoo to cooking together at home, this book celebrates all the fun you can have with your grandma. Want a book about grandpas? Check out Grandpas Are for Finding Worms.

by Sanae Ishida

When Little Kunoichi grows restless during the summer months, her parents take her to visit Grandma Ba-chan. Unconventional and creative, Ba-chan takes Little Kunoichi on an unforgettable adventure.  Kids will love this story.  Very unique.

by Wendy Meddour

Grandchildren can be a source of comfort for a grieving grandparent. When Henry notices his grandpa spending all day gardening instead of talking and playing, he wants to help. Henry starts a game that gets Grandpa listening, talking, and smiling again.
