Unwrapping Some Illustrations for You

The Book

Sydney Sparrow is a dreamer.  She is a BIG dreamer.  While most birds of her kind become seed gatherers or nest builders Sydney's desire is to become the New York Philharmonic Orchestra conductor!  Now that's HUGE for a tiny bird!

She becomes mesmerized by the orchestra's melodic music one evening when they perform on Central Park's Great Lawn.  She has never heard such beautiful sounds before.  Sydney shares her dream with her Mother who doesn't try to discourage her but helps her achieve it even though others around her think her dream is unrealistic and rather silly.

Does Sydney give up?  No way!  With courage, determination and lots of practice Sydney Sparrow becomes a conductor extraordinaire... a super heroine!   She  discovers that she is born to be a maestro of this enchanting music.

The illustrations are impressive and the colour pallet is rich and vibrant.  The details and expressions of the birds are delightful.  There are tips at the end for parents and teachers that encourage and inspire kids to follow their dreams and never give up.  Kids may identify with Sydney, who wants to do something out of the ordinary, but has to find courage, self-acceptance, and determination to reach her goal.  I highly, highly recommend this book. It's a winner indeed.
