Unwrapping Some Illustrations for You

                           The Book

I love this book!  Written in rhyme and with illustrations that are spot-on perfect I know kids will love it too!  Things are very weird in this particular little town. Zoo animals are running it.  The animals are now driving fire trucks, teaching in the classroom, creating hairstyles in the beauty parlour,  frying eggs in the kitchen, mowing the lawn, conducting the school choir, and coaching the local soccer team, just to name a few.  What in the world is going on?  But wait... if the animals are not in the Zoo... then who is?

This engaging and silly book will have both kids and grown-ups giggling.  The unexpected twist at the end is the perfect ending.  The illustrations are delightful and detailed. They are full of humour and imagination. Recommended as a read-aloud this book will certainly be hit.  I highly recommend it.

Meet the Author

Suzanne Houghton won the Five Mile Press Illustrator Prize 2016. The Five Mile Press publisher and acting managing director Kay Scarlett said the shortlist was chosen from more than 100 entries. The prize was started to foster talented Australian illustrators who may not normally have approached publishers and it has been terrific to see more creators enter this year.

About the Illustrator

Suzanne Houghton walks around with a head full of ideas and a sketchbook full of characters. She loves nothing more than to splash colour on a page and spends most of her time ‘colouring in’.

In 2015 Suzanne was recognised for her talent winning the Five Mile Press National Illustration Award leading to her first picture book Starring Walter Pigeon. In 2020 she won the Speech Pathology Australia book of the year award for Goat on a Boat written by Nick Dent.

When it comes to her books there is one thing Suzanne wants more than anything. To make kids laugh. She believes that humour is essential and if kids don’t find her funny, she isn’t doing her job properly.

Suzanne is strongly involved in the children’s publishing industry and works closely with local schools through workshops and presentations.

She is constantly working on new and exciting projects, which now include writing and illustrating her own stories.
