                             The Book

Mable, an adorable tangle of sticks and dust, is a tumbleweed living in the desert.   One day she comes unrooted and rides the winds on an adventure of a lifetime.

On and on she rolls and tumbles over highways, past honking cars, bobcats and desert varmints of every shape and size.  The world is her oyster and she loves the freedom and excitement of her non-stop movement.  She takes pity on the other weeds rooted to the ground as she zooms by.  How boring their lives must be... lifeless she thinks!

Then everything comes to a halt and Mable finds herself stuck between a barn and an old fence. Try as she might she can not budge and break free to continue her life in the fast lane.

"Mabel's heart grew heavy.

Stillness was scary!

Life would become dull, boring, lifeless."

Mable sobs deeply and loudly as she tries to free herself.  But alas, she just sits there unable to move.  In her confinement she starts observing her surroundings and all the beauty she has been missing.  She is transfixed with her observations. She notices things she would be unaware of if she were tumbling and whirling along with great speed.  Wisely Mable learns a valuable life lesson.  She learns to slow down and appreciate the value of what being still can bring to her.

The illustrations are lovely and the message is positive and inspiring.  I highly recommend this book.
