The Book

This is a fun book about three bird friends who decide not to follow the crowd and their instincts to fly south for the winter.  They won't put the effort into such a long migration and are feeling lazy so they stay behind.

Once the rest of their flock has departed the three realize their folly.  It's mighty cold in the wintertime.  Who knew?  They always were in flight to warmer climates leaving those freezing temperatures far behind?

Still unwilling to give in they try different solutions to keep warm. They try wearing winter clothes like their human counterparts and even try living in the water like fish.  Do those adaptations solve their problem?  No way!

The three amigos discover it's best to take flight and join the other birds to flee from the misery of the engulfing cold.  They arrive safely and meet up with the others.  Just as they begin to relax and thaw out the flock leader announces it's time to fly north once again!  Oh nooooooo!  Really? You have got to be kidding...right?

The illustrations are humorous and very kid-friendly.  The story is told in panels with speech bubbles which kids are sure to enjoy.  "Time to Go" highlights themes of:  migration, adaptation, animal behaviour, problem solving and never giving up.  I highly recommend this book.
