The Book

 Ocean and his little brother, Kingston, are off into a wonderful adventure.  They are exploring the beautiful Hawaiian island of Maui to find a rare sunrise shell for their mom's birthday present.  

Along the way they experience the sights and sounds of nature found in Hawaii.  The reader feels they are participating along with the boys as the two try their best to complete their mission with success.  Will the two be victorious and bring happiness to their mom as they present her with an extraordinary beautiful sunrise shell to delight in on her special day? 

Carlos and Alexa PenaVega, a celebrity couple, known for their starring roles in Big Time Rush and Spy Kids, respectively, debut their first picture book. It was inspired by their first born son, Ocean, and their home in Hawaii.  

The adventure pulls each reader into the search and Ocean's World provides an educational element as well.  The couple has added fun facts along the way such as:  how high a dolphin can jump, how long it takes a sea-turtle egg to hatch, the names of different types of shells, and showcases various types of animals that are found in the ocean as the boys comb the beach, surf the waves and snorkel, just to cite a few.  

The illustrations are vibrant, colourful and marry with the text perfectly. They are spot on for that targeted age group - 4-8 years. The book is up-beat and fun and kids ( and adults ) will love it.

Meet the Authors

   

Carlos "Pena" PenaVega starred as Carlos Garcia on the Nickelodeon series Big Time Rush and then traveled with the show’s band, Big Time Rush. He is the voice of Bobby Santiago in the Nickelodeon cartoons The Loud House and The Casagrandes, was the host of the network’s game show Webheads, and has had guest-starring roles on several prime television shows. He and his wife, Alexa, appeared on the twenty-first season of Dancing with the Stars in fall 2015. In January 2014, Carlos and Alexa married in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, combining their last names to form PenaVega. The couple shares a YouTube channel, La Vida PenaVega, and are the parents of two sons, Ocean and Kingston, and one baby girl, Rio.

Alexa "Vega" PenaVega is best known for her role as Carmen Cortez in the hit film series Spy Kids, and then reappeared as a grown-up Carmen in the fourth film, Spy Kids 4: All the Time in the World. She has performed on Broadway in Hairspray, played Ruby Gallagher on the ABC Family television sitcom Ruby & the Rockits, and has held roles in several other films. Most recently, she starred in a series of Hallmark made-for-television films. When she and Carlos Pena married in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, the couple combined their last names to form PenaVega and are now the proud parents of two sons, Ocean and Kingston, and one baby girl, Rio.

About the Illustrator

Kiersten Eagan is an illustrator and visual-development artist with a passion for storytelling. After graduating from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, Kiersten started working in the world of animation, where she has designed for a variety of television and film projects, such as My Little Pony, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, and The Addams Family. You’ll find Kiersten working on a new project, getting lost in a graphic novel, or exploring with her sketchbook in hand. Originally from the forests of Canada, she currently lives in London, England, where she loves exploring alleyways and looking for secret passageways to Narnia and Wonderland.
